SHILLONG, Aug 26: Vehemently condemning the alleged rape of four minors at Ummir near the Shillong Bypass recently, the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has termed the incident as a “magnified and glaring example of yet another act of sexual violence committed against minors”.
In a statement issued here, it said, “The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights strongly condemns this horrific crime and all such acts of violence against minors (both male and female).”
Stating that children, especially during these trying times, are vulnerable because of technological access to unsafe sites, lockdown depression, anxiety about their future and other socio-psychological dysfunctions, the child rights body called upon all stakeholders, parents, guardians, older siblings, teachers and the community to be alert and vigilant in protecting the children “in whatever way we can”.
The incident in question here is from August 8, when four minor girls were allegedly raped by six persons from Mawpdang village, who were subsequently arrested on August 9.
