Entry point to check vax status of tourists on cards

SHILLONG, Aug 31: If everything goes as planned, tourists may soon find an entry point at Mawkdok for checking of the vaccination status before entering different tourist destinations in Sohra.
The office of the Syiem of  has made a proposal to the state government for setting up of such an entry point at Mawkdok for tourists from outside and within the state.
This was informed by Syiem Khynnah of Hima Sohra, Maremdor Syiem after meeting East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, at her office chamber on Tuesday.
According to their envisaged plan, the local tourists, who have been vaccinated with only a single dose, would need to produce the vaccination certificate. “Minors between the age group of 11 and 18 years, who are accompanied by adult tourists, will have to produce negative RTCPR/TRUNAT/CBNAAT report which will be valid only if they have tested within 72 hours prior to their arrival at all the entry point,” Syiem said.
He further said that the tourists from outside the state should produce their entry folios of interstate e-pass along with the COVID negative test report.
Syiem Khynnah also said that the tourists will need to register their full particulars at the entry point with a valid photo ID card. “If the tourists are planning to stay as a guest of any family/friend in Sohra then they will need to declare their full address and contact details of the family members/friend at the entry point,” he added.
Meanwhile, Syiem Khynnah of Sohra also said that the Hima will initiate a cleanliness drive by distributing wet and dry organic plastic disposable bags to all the tourists at the entry point for throwing wastes and return the same for disposal while returning back.
He said that they have also requested hotels, guest houses, home stays, tourist spots etc., to categorically specify using a notice board the vaccination status of the staff at the respective entrances.  He also informed that the Deputy Commissioner assured to take up the matter with the government on the plan of the Hima to set up the entry point.
“We will also be meeting the Director of Tourism department to brief him on this proposal,” Syiem said.
The Syiem Khynnah has stated that the proposed move will facilitate the safety of the people of Sohra in view of the COVID-19 situation.
