MAWKYRWAT, Sep 6: Leaders of four groups from Mawsynram Block in East Khasi Hills — KSU, HYC, FKJGP and HANM — have demanded of the PWD to construct a bridge over Khasimara river after they inspected the Mawsynram-Balat road in Nongthymmai village, which was cut off due to landslide following heavy rainfall recently.
Speaking to media persons, Kyllang Thongni, vice president of HANM Central Body, said that the leaders of various groups inspected the road after receiving complaints from the people that the pace of construction is sluggish and till date only two-wheelers and light vehicles can ply on the road.
He alleged that the work progress was too slow as the contractor uses manpower only, which is why, according to Thongni, they have urged the PWD and the contractor to employ more people so that the work can be expedited and flow of vehicles, especially those that carry essential commodities, can resume.
The groups also flagged concerns over the step-motherly treatment towards the area by the previous governments.
