SHILLONG, Sep 8: After being appointed as the state Congress president recently, Vincent H Pala has been seen raising his voice against the MDA with a barrage of censure and criticism over several issues in the state. Amidst this environment, the Congress and Vincent H Pala have been accused of playing “opportunistic politics” at a time when all political parties should ideally stand together to resolve the ongoing crisis. The charges have been levelled by National Council member, Bashailang Khongwir, who describes the Congress and its ploy as “hilarious”.
Attacking the opposition party, Khongwir stated that the Congress can never come back to power in Meghalaya even as he added that “if its MLAs are desperate for power then they should leave the party first and join BJP”.
He even claimed that there are internal divisions within the Congress after Pala was appointed party president.
Taking a jibe at the Congress’ past attempts to overthrow the government in the state, Khongwir said that “in last session they wanted to move a no-confidence motion and this session they want the removal of the speaker; in the next session they might see exodus of the Congress MLAs”.
On Congress chief’s allegation against BJP of playing divisive politics, Khongwir has asked Pala to enquire with the Congress high command about why the party has formed an ally with the AIUDF in Assam.
“Congress is responsible for the financial mess. The MDA is now clearing the financial mess left behind by the previous Congress government. Despite two years of COVID crisis, the MDA has made considerable financial corrections and is dealing ably with the fund crunch deepened further by the pandemic,” he added.
