Ban on movement along int’l border
TURA, Sep 17: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has indefinitely prohibited movement of people within the range of 100 metre from the Indo-Bangladesh border during night hours between 6 PM and 6 AM. The order, which was issued on Friday, comes following apprehensions over movements of international gangs and criminals, and the presence of smugglers and other anti-national elements near the International Border during night hours.
Teachers appeal for appointment
TURA, Sep 17: Aspiring lower primary school teachers who cleared the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) in 2019 from Dadenggrer Civil Subdivision in West Garo Hills have urged the Meghalaya government to initiate the recruitment process before conducting the MTET 2021. In a memorandum addressed to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, the teachers pointed out that the recruitment process for qualified teachers under the same examination has been completed in all subdivisions in the entire state except Dadenggre. According to the teachers, the results of the MTET 2019 for Dadenggre were declared this year on April 29 although the process of recruitment has been pending till date. The teachers rued that despite there being no recruitment against the earlier examination results, the concerned department was now looking to conduct the MTET in 2021. “We have learnt through a notification that the Education Department is planning to conduct the MTET examination 2021. We are not against the notification but our appeal is to get ourselves recruited before the commencement of the said examination so that we do not feel discriminated,” they said.
Miscreants loot cash from vehicles
NONGPOH, Sep 17: In a daring act, miscreants intercepted three vehicles on Killing Road in Ri Bhoi and looted more than Rs 65,000 from the occupants of two of the vehicles, on Thursday night. After the loot, the miscreants fled away when they saw more vehicles arriving at the place where the incident happened. The owners of the vehicles have filed a police complaint with Khanapara Police Station, and search is on to nab the miscreants.
Farmers in Ri Bhoi receive saplings
NONGPOH, Sep 17: As a part of the launch of International Year of Millets 2023, fruit saplings, seeds and farmer’s material were distributed to farmers of Ri Bhoi by the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture Sciences, Umiam, under Central Agriculture University (CAU), Umiam. The programme was organised jointly with Ri Lajong Farmer Produce Organization, Ri Bhoi. The items distributed to the farmer included all types of fruit saplings, bio-pesticide, spray machine, pheromone trap, sticky trap etc. The programme aimed to increase public awareness on the health benefits of millets and their suitability for cultivation under tough conditions marked by climate change.
