WGH police seizes cannabis worth Rs 1 lakh, arrests two
TURA, Sep 22: Police in West Garo Hills on Tuesday night confiscated almost seven kg of cannabis worth Rs one lakh and arrested two people during a special anti-narcotics operation. According to West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, VS Rathore, the operation was launched in Nimaikata village of Koilaghat under Phulbari police station, following a tip-off about the presence of a large consignment of narcotic substance. Police then raided the house of one Fozial Sk and apprehended Saddaq Ali (41), who belongs to Fakirganj under Dhubri, Assam. The police then seized cannabis weighing 6.7 kg from their possession, which was reportedly to be transported. Police also found that Sk, the house owner, was illegally cultivating cannabis on his residence.

PDS quota for EKH
SHILLONG, Sep 22: The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) has informed that rice under NFSA and non-NFSA for September and wholemeal atta for August has been released through the respective fair price shops. A statement in this regard informed that AAY quota of rice will be distributed at the scale of 35 kg per card at Rs 3 per kg, PHH quota at the scale of 5 kg per head at Rs 3 per kg and non-NFSA at the scale of 7.215 kg per household at Rs 12.70 to Rs 13 per kg. “Wholemeal atta will be distributed at the scale of 5 kg per card in urban areas and 3 kg per card in rural areas at Rs 10.50 per kg,” the statement added.

SBI branch celebrates 39th anniv
SHILLONG, Sept 22: The State Bank of India (SBI), Meghalaya Secretariat Branch, on Monday celebrated its 39th anniversary, which was attended by Chief Secretary MS Rao, Principal Secretary, Health department, Sampath Kumar, among other government officials. Rao, who was the chief guest for the programme, appreciated the branch for its services, and said that he has not received any complaint from any of the government department in the Secretariat. Deputy General Manager, Shillong Module, Amit Kumar, on the other hand, felicitated achievers, best employee of the month and staff during the programme.
