GHADC directs staff of courts to attend to office duties
TURA, Sep 23: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has directed all staff of the District Council Courts and those of the Revenue Courts to attend their respective office duties with immediate effect. The directive in this regard from the Principal Secretary to the Executive Committee comes following an order issued by the High Court that said that courts have been non-functional since the last agitation by the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA). “It is expected that the district authorities, as also the Executive Committee of the GHADC, take all steps necessary to ensure that the functioning of the Courts be not impeded in any manner, failing which this Court will not have any alternative but to pass appropriate orders to ensure the smooth dispensation of justice and uphold the rule of law,” the order issued by the High Court had said.
Nongstoin College to avail scheme
NONGSTOIN, Sep 23: Nongstoin College, on Wednesday, received a sanction letter from Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to avail benefits offered under the Meghalaya government’s scheme called People’s College during a small gathering on college premises which was attended by Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat, College Principal, Dr. I Mawthoh, teachers and staff among others. Rymbui announced that Nongstoin College is among the nine colleges of the state to be accorded the recognition as per a decision made during a Cabinet meeting at Jowai in February last year. Informing the gathering that Mawkawah LP School has been sanctioned for improvement, local MLA Macmillan Byrsat reminded the crowd that the construction of a new school building of Sibsingh Memorial Government Higher Secondary School has also been sanctioned at the cost of Rs 5 crore.
