SHILLONG/NONGPOH, Sep 23: Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Kapil Moreshwar Patil, has expressed satisfaction over the upkeep of villages as well as amenities through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in villages of Meghalaya.
The MoS, who was on a two-day visit to Meghalaya to review the implementation of government schemes, visited some rural sites and interacted with beneficiaries.
The MoS toured the villages of Mawlein Mawkhan under Umsning and Lum Umpih in Ri Bhoi and took stock of the works executed under the MGNREGS.
Patil also held review meetings at Mawlein Mawkhan ( and Lum Umpih with government officials who are working at the grassroots level for the implementation of schemes.
He also visited houses constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) and poultry farms under the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD).
The MoS, after reviewing the local governance by touring rural Meghalaya, remarked, “I am happy to visit these villages in Meghalaya and see the happiness and enthusiasm of the people here. The progress of the central government schemes in these villages is worth appreciating.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Patil reviewed MGNREGA, PMAY(G), NRLM, RGSA and other programmes of the Government if India. C&RD Minister, Hamletson Dohling, and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne, were also present during the review meeting.
The MoS also assured that the Ministry will examine the feasibility of preparing separate guidelines for the implementation of the central programmes in Northeastern states.
