Will prioritise tourism in JH and GH: Saleng

SHILLONG, Sep 25: The newly appointed chairman of the Board of Directors of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Saleng Sangma, has said that bolstering tourism in the regions of Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills will be one of his main areas of focus.
Speaking to media persons here, Saleng also argued that both Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills have huge potential in terms of tourism sector.
Deeming Meghalaya’s tourism sector an ‘evergreen business’, Saleng accentuated the need to provide more space and facility to the tourists who visit the state.
He also stressed on the need to concoct innovative ideas in order to attract tourists to Meghalaya and create more employment in tourism sector.
He also informed that select European countries have made tourism one of their main resources.
It may be mentioned that for over a year Meghalaya’s tourism sector has been bedevilled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the tourism industry here has, of late, seen a gradual improvement with the relaxations of COVID-19 strictures.
Meanwhile, Saleng has also assured of according priority to the completion of the much-delayed Crowborough Hotel, the construction of which is under way.
