NONGPOH, Sep 27: As many as two lives were lost after a blast occurred in one of the ‘illegal’ stone quarries at Chibra village near Nagrabil in Ri Bhoi, while five persons were injured in the incident.
According to sources, the incident happened at 3pm on Monday. Among the five hurt, one sustained serious injuries and was immediately shifted to Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) in Assam for treatment.
It is alleged that the stone quarries located along the border of Chibra and Nagrabil are illegally run by a businessman and the road leading to the site is quite difficult to ply on, especially during rainy seasons.
