SHILLONG, Sep 30: Ahead of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s October 4 visit to Shillong, National Congress Party (NCP) chief, Saleng Sangma, on Thursday said that he will submit a letter to the former on the long-pending issue of ILP in Meghalaya.
Beseeching Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his council of ministers to persistently push the Centre for the implementation of ILP, Saleng contended that just passing a unanimous resolution in the Assembly is not enough.
Alleging that many Rohingya refugees have been apprehended in Assam and Delhi, he dreaded that Meghalaya might also be staring at similar influx bids.
“I urge the chief minister and the government to push harder. We need ILP and, I repeat, this is not against any community. We need protection as we are a very limited population,” Saleng added.
Speaking on the Vice President’s Shillong visit, Saleng said he will use this as an opportunity to nudge the Vice President on the issue of ILP.
“I will personally write a letter to the Vice President and submit it as an NCP state president,” he added.
