Union Edn min urges students to strive for devp of Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Oct 1: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has advised the student community at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya to utilise their knowledge and skills for Meghalaya’s development and contribute to the cause of nation building.
The Union minister was virtually addressing the 8th annual convocation of NIT Meghalaya on Friday.
In his address, Pradhan reiterated the role of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in shaping the lives of the students and the education landscape of the country. He also emphasised that the need of the hour is to adopt a strategy of rapid economic growth, while ensuring equitable and quality education to all.
During the course of the programme, NIT Meghalaya conferred upon Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir, an honorary doctorate for his notable contributions in the field of music.
Also, Prof. DN Buragohain, foundation director of IIT Guwahati, was conferred an honorary doctoral degree for his remarkable contributions to structural analysis and design of Power Plants in India.
This year, NIT Meghalaya awarded as many as 19 PhD, 34 M.Tech, 37 M.Sc and 124 B.Tech degrees. The efforts and achievements of exceptional students were also recognised and rewarded.
Jaswant Arya of Computer Science and Engineering was awarded the President Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance among the B.Tech graduating batch.
A total of three Institute Gold Medals were awarded to Arjun Panicker (M.Tech), Archita Goswami (M.Sc) and Aditya Tarafdar (B.Tech) for best academic performance among the entire outgoing students.
In regard to the best academic performance in the respective departments, the Institute Silver Medals were awarded to Aditya Tarafdar, Akash Kumar Panda, Akash Kumar Panda, Sourav Paul, Pardip Dowrah and Sidharth Agarwal among the outgoing B.Tech batch of students.
Institute Silver Medals were also awarded to Syed Bustan Fatima Warsi, Arjun Panicker, Manolina Saha, Edi Sankararao and Ajay Pawar among the outgoing M.Tech batch of students.
Among the outgoing M.Sc batch of students, the Institute Silver Medals were awarded to Archita Goswami and Pallabi Saha.a
