TURA/ AMPATI, Oct 2: West Garo Hills District Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) on Saturday celebrated the Swachh Bharat Diwas to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, during which 40 villages under six C&RD Blocks of West Garo Hills were declared (Open Defecation-Free) ODF Plus, the certificates for which were handed over to the respective Nokmas and VWSC secretaries.
According to a statement, the programme at Multi Facility Centre of Rongram C&RD Block was attended by Nokmas, Sardars, Swachhagrahis, DSBM Block coordinators of all C&RD Blocks in West Garo Hills, DSBM Ambassadors, et al.
Executive Engineer (PHE) JM Sangma, who attended the programme as the chief guest, spoke at length about the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission initiated by the Government of India.
The chief guest also sought the cooperation and support from the locals for the successful implementation of governmental schemes.
The other highlights of the programme include songs performed by Samuel Ch Marak on cleanliness, waste management and COVID-19 vaccination and Roni D Sangma on Swachhta Hi Sewa.
Swachh Bharat Diwas in SWGH
The Swachh Bharat Diwas was also celebrated in Ampati to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
A programme to mark the occasion was organised at Ampati Multi-Facility Centre which was attended by South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ch. Ramakrishna, Executive Engineer (PHE), among other officials and stakeholders from the district.
Series of activities like Swachhgraha Rath Yatra, Shramdaan and Swachhta campaign were conducted by the SBM team of Ampati to enlighten people on the importance of sanitation and clean environment and to inculcate the practice of systematic management of solid and liquid waste through participation of the stakeholders.
During the programme, the Village Water & Sanitation Committees of 45 villages under the district were conferred with awards and certificates for their active participation in the Swachhta Campaign.
The DC also took the lead in plantation and cleaning drives in and around the premises of Ampati Civil Hospital as part of the observance of Swachhta Pakhwada.
