TURA, Oct 18: President of the Mindikgre unit of the GSU, Greneth M Sangma on Monday submitted a memorandum to Chairman cum Managing Director of the MeECL R V Suchiang seeking the up-gradation of the Baghmara MeECL Sub-Division to a full pledged Divisional Office.

In his memorandum, Greneth pointed out that the Sub Divisional Office was set up immediately after the creation of South Garo Hills District but regretted that no improvement has been made to it whether in terms of ‘Infrastructure or Man Power’. He added that while an Executive Engineer has been appointed for the district, the official on account of lack of office space has been functioning from the office of the executive engineer in Williamnagar.

According to Greneth, the Sub Divisional Office is currently functioning under one Sub Divisional Officer with a skeleton staff comprising eight linemen (three for emergency duty) and five others for outside duty. He also claimed that the emergency staff does not even have a vehicle to ferry them to attend to any emergency duties in the district.

Stating that up-grading the Sub Divisional Office has been long overdue, Greneth sought the immediate construction of a building to accommodate the Executive Engineer, appointment of two linemen each for emergency duty at Mindikgre, Erenggre, Emangre, Kharukol and Panda and the sanctioning of at least two vehicles for the emergency duty staff.
