Ex-Madrid player Gago takes over Racing Club

Buenos Aires, Oct 22: Former Real Madrid and Argentina midfielder Fernando Gago has been appointed head coach of Racing Club on a 14-month contract, the Argentinian Primera Division side said.
The 35-year-old replaces Claudio Ubeda, who had been appointed on a caretaker basis following the departure of Juan Antonio Pizzi in August. “I can promise that I will try to make the team attractive to watch and hungry for success, with a desire to fight for 90 minutes,” Gago told a news conference on Thursday.
“The players know my way of playing football, which is to try to dominate the opposition with intensity, aggression and a desire to win,” he added. Gago’s only previous managerial experience was a three-month spell with Aldosivi, which ended in September after a seven-game losing run.
As a player, Gago earned 61 Argentina caps. (UNI)
