MAWKYRWAT, Oct 25: Several labourers have been told to return after the United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) Mawkyrwat Circle accused a construction company undertaking the works on Javahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) permanent campus at Mawlangwir, four kilometres from Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills, of violating the agreement with the local Dorbar Shnong by bringing more than specified number of labourers to the state from outside.
A surprise inspection was conducted by the UHM after it received information that the company, Jyotson Construction, has brought several labourers from outside to work at the JNV campus.
“Today, we found out that there are 18 labourers from outside the state in which most of them do not have the required documents. This is also a clear violation of the agreement between the company and the Dorbar Shnong Mawlangwir which clearly states that the company can bring only three people from outside the state and the rest should be the locals,” said president of the UHM, Jolin Lyngdoh.
“We have told them that the outside labourers should leave Mawlangwir by tomorrow (Tuesday), unless there is another agreement between the Jyotson Construction and the Dorbar Shnong Mawlangwir, which is not as far as our knowledge, and also that the labourers should possess all required documents,” Lyngdoh said.
