TURA, Oct 26: A homeless elderly woman who was run over by a speeding boulder truck in Purakhasia village of West Garo Hills has died.

The over 70 year old woman was run over by an empty boulder truck that was travelling on the wrong side of the road late Monday night. The poor woman was left bleeding with both her legs completely dismembered by the truck which went over her.

Police tried to rush her to Tura civil hospital but she died on the way at Ampati.

The incident sparked widespread anger and torching of the truck while the driver was taken into custody by Purakhasia police.

With an angry mob blocking the highway all through the night, as many as 14 dumper trucks had to be detained outside the police station. This is the third case of civilian fatality caused by speeding trucks in the last few months.
