12 to represent Meghalaya at national Yogasana event
SHILLONG, Oct 27: As many as 12 state finalists, who were selected through Yogasana sports championship held virtually, will represent Meghalaya in the national Yogasana event which will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, under the supervision of National Yogasana Sports Federation, New Delhi, and under the chairmanship of Baba Ramdev, the Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association said. The national competition will begin on November 11 and continue till November 15. Participants from East Khasi Hills and Garo Hills districts participated before the state selection panel on October 23 via virtual mode.

SHILLONG, Oct 27: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Office of the District Child Protection Officer, East Khasi Hills, on Tuesday organised an orientation programme on Juvenile Justice Act (2015), Role of Child Welfare Committee, Role of Juvenile Justice Board, Role of Special Juvenile Police Unit, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (2012) and other child-related issues to mark the occasion of pan-India awareness and outreach programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, at Observation Home (Boys), Mawkasiang, New Shillong. According to a statement issued here, Meghalaya High Court judge, Justice H.S. Thangkhiew, who was the chief guest during the programme, touched upon the principles on which the Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 was enacted, role of Juvenile Justice Board, Child Welfare Committee, the Special Juvenile Police Unit, the Court and society, and various provisions relating to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.The other topics that were covered during the programme include Adoption, Understanding Child Psychology, Role of Functionaries of the Child Care Institutions and the role of the media. “While reminding the participants of the robust infrastructure in Shillong relating to Child care institutions the participants were encouraged to diligently work towards the proper implementation of the provisions of the acts and to create awareness,” the statement said.Others who were part of the programme include officials from the Juvenile Justice Board, District Child Protection Unit, MSLSA, and others.
