Consignment of heroin seized in city; two held

SHILLONG, Nov 8: Acting on inputs that a consignment of narcotics was being delivered to a person here, a team of Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), East Khasi Hills, along with officers and personnel of Madanrting Police Station carried out a search of the suspect’s residence at Madanrting which led to the seizure of as many as 101 soap boxes of heroin. Two women have also been arrested in the case.
According to a statement, 66 soap boxes were kept inside a purple bag and 35 soap boxes in a carton.
It was confirmed by a preliminary test that the substance in the boxes was heroin, which altogether weighed 1.116 kg and had been trafficked from Myanmar, as per the statement. Investigation is under way to nab others involved in the racket.
