SHILLONG, Nov 9: Keeping to his word, Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh visited Mawpynthymmai village on Tuesday to survey the village so as to ascertain whether or not it can be connected with a motorable road.
The minister had earlier launched a solar power initiative of the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS) at Mawpynthymmai, with the help of which the village is now completely electrified and all 24 households have access to basic electricity.
At the inaugural programme, Banteidor had assured that Mawpynthymmai would get proper road connectivity in the future.
Lyngdoh, who is MLA of Mawkynrew Constituency, walked for hours to reach Mawpynthymmai village.
Admitting that the people of the village have been deprived of developmental activities for many years, he pointed out that it will be a difficult task to bring road connectivity to the village, while suggesting that the only way to construct the road is through Umkhoi village.
“I would try my best to see that the village is connected by a motorable road,” the local MLA said.
The villagers at Mawpynthymmai, prior to NESFAS intervention, used kerosene lamps in their homes at night.
