TURA, Nov 9: Tragedy struck a brother-sister duo when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided directly with a PWD dumper truck at Zikzak in South West Garo Hills district on Tuesday afternoon leading to the death of one of them.
The bike was reportedly speeding and lost control crashing into dumper that was coming from the opposite direction.
The incident occurred at Rakoldubi village of Zikzak at 3:30 pm when the two victims — Sengkam D Sangma (17) and his sister Salsime D Sangma, both students and hailing from Dombaggre village of Zikzak — were travelling on the newly constructed road connecting Zikzak Bazar to Bhoirakupi village.
They were both rushed to Zikzak PHC where doctors referred them to Tura Civil Hospital for further treatment but the brother passed away from his injuries. His sister remains in critical condition.
The Ampati-Zikzak-Mahendraganj-Purakhasia-Dalu state highway road has been in the news for a string of accidents involving collisions with dumper trucks and run overs in the past couple of months.
In the last three months there have been four victims who lost their lives, including a 5-year-old child and a homeless old woman who was run over during the night in Purakhasia region.
