Road construction to facilitate coal transportation prompts DC action

NONGPOH, Nov 9: The Ri Bhoi District Magistrate has prohibited plying of coal-laden trucks or heavy vehicles from Umeit (Umroi)-Lumnongthroh-Lumsohphoh to Mawlein Mawkhan.
A statement in this regard said that the directive was necessitated in view of an illegal construction of road by select persons to facilitate plying of coal-laden trucks.
“Some persons are illegally constructing road for plying of trucks carrying coal through many private lands without the consent of the land owners i.e., from Umeit (Umroi)-Lumnongthroh-Lumsohphoh to Mawlein Mawkhan,” the statement said.
The same persons have also been accused of illegally dumping coal in the cultivated land without any authorisation.
