SHILLONG, Nov 11: Days after winning the by-elections to the Mawryngkneng seat, National People’s Party (NPP) MLA, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, has claimed that the Opposition Congress had made an attempt to polarize the voters on communal lines.
Talking to reporters, Syiem said, “We analysed the results and found that we lost in few polling stations because the Congress tried to mislead the people saying that all the churches will be closed down if they voted for the NPP.”
It is really surprising that Congress even now has not accepted the defeat and it is still trying to spread all the negatives about the NPP in particular and the MDA Government in general, he said.
Dismissing the cash-for-votes allegations levelled against the NPP, Syiem said, “The Congress, since 2003, has won the erstwhile Sohryngkham and now Mawryngkneng by using money power. It is the Congress who is responsible for spoiling the voters and people of Mawryngkneng.”
