NONGPOH, Nov 12: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday exuded confidence that his government will be able to realise the target of providing tap connections to close to six lakh households by December 2022.
Conrad said this during a foundation stone-laying ceremony for multi-village water supply scheme —Jorabat Combined Water Supply Scheme —at Mawsmai village, Ri Bhoi.
It may be mentioned that the Jorabat Combined Water Supply Scheme, under Jal Jeevan Mission, will help provide potable water to Jorabat, Mawsmai, Ampher and Ampangiri.
Touching upon the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the chief minister said that the implementation of the project in Meghalaya is progressing well.
He expressed hope that with the efforts of the officers of the concerned department, the government will soon be able to achieve its target of providing tap connections to nearly six lakh households by December 2022.
In last one and a half year, the state has been able to provide more than two lakh households with tap connections through the JJM, the chief minister added.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony was also attended by Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, and other local legislators.
Earlier, during the day, the chief minister also inaugurated the newly constructed guest house of the NEPA at Umsawkhwan, Ri Bhoi. The guest house will cater to the accommodation needs of the visiting faculty and dignitaries of the training institute.
