Tashkent declared host of 2025 Asian Youth Para Games
New Delhi, Nov 17: The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) on Wednesday announced that Tashkent, Uzbekistan will host the 2025 Asian Youth Para Games. The decision was taken by the APC’s Executive Board following a bid process that saw a number of NPCs express interest in hosting the event. According to information received here, NPC Uzbekistan, supported by the country’s Ministry for Tourism and Sport, submitted a bid to host the event in late September/early October 2025 in Tashkent. The 2021 edition of the Asian Youth Para Games will take place in Bahrain from December 2-6. (IANS)
Federer set to miss Wimbledon, won’t play Australian Open
Geneva, Nov 17: Roger Federer does not expect to return from his latest knee surgery in time for Wimbledon next June, the tennis great said in an interview published Wednesday by Swiss media. “The truth is that I’d be incredibly surprised to play Wimbledon,” the 40-year-old Federer told the Tribune de Geneve daily. Wimbledon starts June 27, and Federer has not played on tour since a straight-set loss at this year’s Wimbledon in the quarterfinals in July. Within weeks he underwent his third knee surgery in 18 months. (AP)
Indonesia Masters: Srikanth, Dhruv-Sikki in 2nd round
Bali, Nov 17: India ace Kidambi Srikanth staved off a stiff challenge from France’s Christo Popov to progress to the men’s singles second round at the Indonesia Masters Super 750 badminton tournament here on Wednesday. Former world no 1 Srikanth saw off world no 71 Christo 21-18 15-21 21-16 in his opening match. The Indian, currently ranked 15th, is likely to face Indonesia’s sixth seed Jonatan Christie next. In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and N Sikki Reddy notched up a stunning 21-11 22-20 win over second seeds and world no 5 Indonesian duo of Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti to advance to the second round. Golfer Thomas Bjorn wins final Hero Challenge in Dubai
Dubai, Nov 17: Thomas Bjorn won the final Hero Challenge of 2021, defeating former Masters Champion Danny Willett and European Tour winners Min Woo Lee and Marcus Armitage at the Topgolf Dubai. The year-end DP World Tour Championship, carrying a purse of US 9 million dollar, begins on Thursday. The field includes World No.2 American Collin Morikawa, who is bidding to become the first American to take the spot of being European Tour No.1. Another American in the fray is Billy Horschel. They will be challenged by defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Lee Min Woo, Bernd Wiesberger, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Paul Casey, Sam Horsfield and Andy Sullivan from a field of 53 players.
