SHILLONG, Nov 24: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has exhorted the state ministers, legislators, traditional heads and the KHADC to disallow Assam from dictating terms on the vexed interstate border issue.
In a statement on Wednesday, the HYC accused the neigbouring state of trying to exhibit its might during the recent meeting on interstate boundary row.
“We had witnessed that Assam is trying to show its big brotherly attitude during the visit to the border villages in West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi. We strongly condemn this attitude of the Assam Government,” HYC general secretary, Roy Kupar Synrem, said in the statement.
He also urged the Hima, Raid and the villages under Hima Khasi to bar outsiders from claiming ownership over their land.
Acknowledging the joint efforts of the governments of Meghalaya and Assam to resolve the border issue, he said, “We hope that the interstate boundary dispute is resolved before Meghalaya celebrates its 50 years of statehood next year. We want to see Meghalaya have its own boundaries.”
