SHILLONG, Nov 27: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) organised a programme at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday to commemorate the 50th year of Bangladesh Liberation War 1971.
Addressing a gathering comprising primarily youths, students and women, Captain Praveen Davar, convenor of the Bangladesh Liberation War Commemoration Committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), who was the chief guest of the occasion, recalled and traced the history of arguably India’s greatest military victory that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Davar also paid homage to 4,000 soldiers killed in battle and the winners of 513 Vir Chakra, 77 Mahavir Chakra and four Param Vir Chakra — Major Hoshiar Singh, Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, 2/Lt. Arun Khetarpal and L/ Naik Albert Ekka.
