SHILLONG, Dec 7: The National Highway Authority of India has floated the tender for construction of a new bridge on the Shillong Bypass to replace the old Dwar Ksuid bridge which developed cracks last year.
An NHAI official said that the bid was issued recently and the tendering process is likely to be over by December-end. “We are optimistic about starting the work on the new bridge by next month,” the official said while informing that the existing bridge will be dismantled.
As per the bid document, a 75-metre long bridge is set to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.
Vehicles have been plying through a temporary bailey bridge after the old bridge developed cracks last year. However, the temporary bridge has also suffered numerous damages from overloaded trucks as a result of which goods-laden trucks are now diverted through the city in the night hours.
