MeSCMA organise adventure camp

SHILLONG, Dec 12: The Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) organized a one-day adventure training camp here on Saturday to mark and commemorate International Mountain Day.
General secretary of the association, Wallambok Lyngdoh organised the event along with volunteer instructors of the association for the youth of the state to promote the spirit of adventure sports. The training camp was held at the training area at Mawthadkhla Rock, Kynjatphutbol-Riat Laban.
The event was inaugurated by the headman of Kynjatphutbol-Riat Laban, Shaiphar Wahlang as the chief guest and was attended by other executive members of the locality.
Lt Col Jay Prakash Kumar, SM, a renowned mountaineer of the Indian Army and a recipient of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2020, attended as a special invitee. The army man shared his experience with adventure sports and spoke about the prospects of such opportunities in the armed forces.
The event showcased various adventure activities to attract the youth and was joined by 60 boys and girls from various districts of the state. Further, there was an equipment display on mountaineering, sport climbing, ice climbing, rock climbing and skiing followed by a demonstration by instructors and technical staff on a natural rock wall. The trainees also took part in several events such as free climbing, rappelling and Tyrolean traversing.
