Party MDCs in KHADC united, says CPP leader

SHILLONG, Dec 14: In view of the political crisis for the Congress in the GHADC, Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) leader in the KHADC, PN Syiem, on Tuesday stated that all of the party’s MDCs in the Council are united. “The situation that happened in GHADC where all the Congress MDCs went and joined the AITC will not repeat in the KHADC. All the MDCs here are united,” Syiem told reporters on Tuesday.
He said that all the MDCs had attended the meeting which was convened on Monday including the party MDC from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Bajop Pyngrope.
It may be mentioned that Pyngrope had earlier hinted that he is likely to join the AITC. However, Syiem maintained that he may have reviewed his plan of switching to the AITC. “Pyngrope was in a positive mood during yesterday’s meeting,” the CPP leader said.
It may be recalled that for the first time in the history of the GHADC, the oldest political party — Indian National Congress — had ceased to have any representative in the House after the entire flock of 11 MDCs elected on the party ticket left to join the Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) recently.
The Congress had won 12 seats in this year’s GHADC polls, the highest after the ruling NPP came second with 11 seats. However, the party lost Batabari MDC Ashahel D Shira to the UDP in October after he defected on being denied a party ticket to contest the Rajabala bypoll, which he lost to NPP’s Abdus Saleh.
