SHILLONG, Dec 14: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who also holds the PWD (Roads) portfolio, said the Centre awarded 1,250 km of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to the state. Some of these projects have been included in the priority list, he said.
“The government of India has given us a target of 1,250 km of rural roads for the current financial year,” Tynsong said.
He said the PWD secretary and engineers have been asked to start preparing the detailed project report (DPR).
“For a small state like Meghalaya, 1,250 km is not a joke. The people will be greatly benefitted if we can complete the projects,” Tynsong said.
He said the rural roads have been approved in 16 of the 46 Community and Rural Development blocks on a priority basis. Efforts are on to approve the scheme in the remaining blocks, he added.
Tynsong said the estimated cost of the projects would be known after the DPR is submitted. The Ministry of Rural Development earmarks the rural roads for each state.
