NEOA conducts meeting to discuss sports promotion in NE

SHILLONG, Dec 19: An informal meeting of the members of the North East Olympic Association (NEOA) was held in New Delhi here, on Sunday to discuss the development and promotion of sports in North East India with primary regard to hosting the 2nd NE Olympic Games in Meghalaya, scheduled to be held in September-October, 2022.
The members had also attended the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
The members were briefed by John F Kharshiing, working president, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), & treasurer, NEOA, who informed that the Meghalaya government has agreed to support the North East games as it coincides with the 50th Anniversary of Meghalaya’s statehood, and that a clear fine print roadmap will be informed to all North East members in 2022.
The NEOA was also briefed on the proposal and suggestions by Lakhya Konwar, general secretary, Assam Olympic Association, for hosting the NE Olympic Youth Games. He said further details would be communicated to all members upon finalising the proposed programme in the coming year.
Nagaland Olympic Association general secretary, Abu Mehta extended an invitation to the NEOA officials and members to attend the opening ceremony of the South Asian Cross Country Championship scheduled for January 15, 2022 in Kohima.
Meanwhile, a formal meeting of the NEOA is scheduled to be held in Kohima in January and in Shillong in March, 2022 to further discuss the promotion of Olympic sports.
