Clarification
Cabinet minister James Sangma has clarified that no financial gift was distributed among the elderly residents of the Sisters of Charity Mercy Home at Demthring during his visit on Monday. Sangma said that the envelopes seen in the picture (ST, December 21) contained Christmas cards. It is to be noted that ST had sourced the photo and the caption from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Facebook page.
Chief Advisor of the UDP, Bindo M Lyngdoh on Tuesday clarified that former minister, Irin Lyngdoh was never in the UDP but was elected from the Congress and remained with the party. In a statement, the former Speaker said Lyngdoh was elected as a Congress MLA in 2003 for the first time and became a minister under then Chief Minister, DD Lapang in 2006.
Dry days
The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, in an order issued here on Tuesday, has declared December 24 and 25 as well as January 1 as dry days across the district on account of Christmas and New Year. All bonded warehouses/IMFL ‘OFF’ & ‘ON’ shops/home delivery licensees/canteens and outstills shall remain closed on the aforementioned days, the order stated.
Invitation
The Christmas Carol Singing Group has invited all its past and present members to the closing ceremony of the golden jubilee celebration, which will be held in the Community Hall, Mission Compound, at 4.30 pm on December 23.
Book release
The book Their Footprints Our Pride by Malabika Bisharad was released on Tuesday by the Governor of Meghalaya, Satya Pal Malik, in Raj Bhavan at 11.30 am. The book documents Rabindranath Tagore’s and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s visits to Shillong.
