Conclave on traditional healers

SHILLONG, Dec 23: The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Meghalaya, research node organised the ‘Ethnopharmacology Conclave with Traditional Healers of Meghalaya’ at 6th Mile, Upper Shillong, on Thursday. The conclave is part of an ongoing programme on ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresources with special reference to North Eastern Region of India’.
In his address, Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, briefly spoke about the importance of traditional medicines and knowledge available with traditional healers of the North East. He mentioned that IBSD is actively involved in documentation, evaluation and scientific validation of traditional healer’s knowledge of this region.
Speaking as the chief guest of the programme, Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), and Chairman, Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission, Titosstarwell Chyne, spoke about the “the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Protection and Promotion of Khasi Traditional Medicine) Act, 2011, which has several objectives including the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission and the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute.
