SHILLONG, Dec 24: Shillong Cricket Association and All Jaintia Cricket Association won the last matches of Zone 1 in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-15 Inter District Tournament to enter the semi-finals on a winning note.
By winning their first three games, SCA had already made it into the last-four but confirmed their position at the top of the zone with victory by 103 runs over East Khasi Hills CA in Nongkhrah, Nongpoh, on Friday.
SCA batted first after winning the toss and amassed 170/8 in their allotted 20 overs, with the tournament’s top scorer Angkit Tamang going all guns blazing with an unbeaten 73 off 36 deliveries in an innings that included 13 fours and one six.
Mebansiewdor Kharshandi took 3/23 in four overs, making him not only the most successful bowler for EKH but also the most economical.
In the chase, EKH were restricted to 67/6, with Player of the Match Tamang (2/11) and Mewan Kitbok Kharpuri (2/20) picking up a brace of wickets each for SCA.
The other match saw All Jaintia CA finish second in the group with a third consecutive victory, this time over Ri-Bhoi, who chose to bat first after winning the toss.
Ri-Bhoi were bowled out for 92 in 19.4 overs, with Vikram Marbaniang top-scoring with 16 and man-of-the-match Eshan Siangshai wreaking havoc with 5/8 in four overs.
Great bowling set up an easy chase for AJCA, who achieved it in 14.1 overs. Ewanmi Pyrtuh struck 34 not out to bring victory by seven wickets.
Both semi-finals of the tournament will be held on December 28 at Nongkhrah. Tura and East Garo Hills had qualified from Zone 2 as first and second respectively. Thus, SCA will take on EGH in the first semi and Tura will play AJCA in the second.
