SHILLONG, Jan 2: Meghalaya is all set to join the rest of the country in launching the COVID-19 vaccination drive for children in the age group of 15-18 years on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong will launch the special vaccination drive at Rynjah State Dispensary at 10am on Monday.
A senior Health official on Sunday said the projected population of children in the age group of 15-18 years is 2.5 lakh.
The vaccination centres in Shillong include NEIGRIHMS, U Soso Tham Auditorium, Ganesh Das Hospital, Reid Chest Hospital and all the private hospitals including Hope Clinic.
The vaccination slots allotted per day in each of the vaccination centres in Shillong is between 100 and 150. The vaccines will be provided free of cost at government centres while private hospitals and clinics have been permitted to collect Rs 100 from the beneficiary as service charge.
According to the official, East Khasi Hills has the maximum number of vaccination centres with 27.
Besides East Khasi Hills, the vaccination drive will also begin in Ri-Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills on Monday. Vaccination drives in North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and East Garo Hills will begin on Tuesday.
According to the official, these four districts will need to collect the vaccine and make preparations to launch the vaccination drive for the 15-18 age group.
Asked about the numbers of teenagers who have registered for vaccination, the Health official expressed inability to furnish the figure saying that the registration had opened from 12 noon on Sunday.
The official further said that registration can also be done at the designated vaccination centres.
