SHILLONG, Jan 3: State Congress working president, PN Syiem slammed the state government on Monday for its four years of alleged misrule and failure to ensure corruption-free governance as committed.
“It is time for the people to turn their eye to the Congress in the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls since the NPP (National People’s Party) and the regional parties, which are parts of the government, have failed on all fronts,” Syiem said addressing a meeting of Sohra Block Congress Committee (BCC) on Monday.
He said while the government is making tall claims on its achievements, the ground reality tells a different story.
“During the last four years, neither the people nor the state gained anything from the government,” he claimed.
Further, he claimed that it was the Congress which ensured there are laws for the protection of traditional practices and rights of the indigenous tribes.
“If the BJP continues to rule the country, the rights of indigenous tribes over land will no longer be there. All the legislations, which are meant for safeguarding the traditional practices and culture of indigenous tribes, will be done away with,” he cautioned.
Citing inflation, Syiem alleged the NDA at the Centre and the state government failed to protect the interest of common citizens.
East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee president, Kennedy C Khyriem said the party leadership will ensure that the candidate proposed and recommended by the BCC will be awarded ticket for the Assembly polls. He urged the Sohra BCC to recommend the candidate’s name by the end of March.
