Over 150 hospitalised in EJH after New Year feast

JOWAI, Jan 3: More than 150 residents of Iapmala village in East Jaintia Hills were taken ill after attending a community feast organised by the Iapmala village Dorbar in East Jaintia Hills on New Year.
They were rushed to the Khliehriat Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. Around 30 of them had serious complications, doctors on duty at the CHC said on Monday.
According to sources, most residents who consumed meat complained of flatulence and start vomiting followed by headache, body ache and dysentery.
East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, SS Syiemlieh has asked the District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO) and officials of the Food Safety directorate to investigate the matter.
Officials from the Health department visited the village to collect samples of the food consumed by the affected residents for testing.
