Ratnayake appointed SL interim coach
Colombo, Jan 4: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former fast bowler Rumesh Ratnayake as the interim coach of the national cricket team for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe. Ratnayake, who is currently serving as a fast-bowling coach at SLC’s high-performance centre, had made his Test debut against New Zealand in March 1983, after making his ODI debut against India in September 1982 at Bengaluru. Former Saurashtra cricketer dies of COVID
Rajkot, Jan 4: Former Saurashtra cricketer Ambapratasinhji Jadeja passed away aged 69 here on Tuesday due to COVID-19, the Saurashtra Cricket Association said. “Everyone at Saurashtra Cricket Association are deeply saddened on the sad demise of Saurashtra’s yesteryears’ cricketer late Ambapratapsinhji Jadeja. He passed away today early morning at Valsad fighting against Covid-19,” SCA said in a media statement. Ambapratasinhji was a prominent right-arm medium pacer and right-handed batsman. He played 8 Ranji Trophy matches representing Saurashtra. (IANS)
Four Zimbabwe U-19 cricketers test positive
Antigua, Jan 4: Four Zimbabwe youth cricketers, who are part of the country’s squad for the ICC Under-19 Men’s World Cup 2022 in the West Indies commencing on January 14, have tested positive for COVID-19. They are self-isolating and will be re-tested before they can join the rest of the squad in St Kitts and Nevis where the team will face Canada and Bangladesh in official warm-up matches scheduled for January 9 and 11 at Basseterre before the Under-19 World Cup proper gets underway.
