Injured Kohli gets throwdowns from Dravid
Johannesburg, Jan 5: India’s Test captain Virat Kohli, who missed the second Test in Johannesburg due to an upper back spasm, took some time out to train with the team ahead of the third day’s play on Wednesday. In a positive sign for the Indian team, Kohli was seen receiving throwdowns from head coach Rahul Dravid during the warm-up. The Indian captain entered the ground, did some stretching before taking a stance and received throwdowns from Dravid. Kohli looked his usual self as he faced a few deliveries from the Indian bowlers and spent time discussing the game with Shardul Thakur. (IANS)
Australia’s Glen Maxwell tests positive for COVID
Melbourne, Jan 5: Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell on Wednesday became the latest cricketer from the Big Bash League to test positive for COVID-19. Maxwell, who is the captain of Melbourne Stars in the BBL, became the 13th player from the franchise to test positive for the virus. the spurt in COVID-19 cases in the BBL continues with the Renegades becoming the fifth club to report a positive case. Three other BBL clubs have reported positive COVID-19 cases. (PTI)
SL’s Rajapaksa retires from int’l cricket
Colombo, Jan 5: Batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa on Wednesday sent a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), announcing his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect, citing family obligations. Rajapaksa made his T20I debut on October 5, 2019 in the tour of Pakistan. His ODI career lasted less than six months as he made his debut in July 2021. (IANS)
