Brandishing arms, duo loots Rs 2L from Ri-Bhoi fuel station

NONGPOH, Jan 8: In what can be termed as concerning, two miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons barged in on a petrol pump at 14th Mile in Ri-Bhoi district on Friday, and looted cash amounting to over Rs 2 lakh.
Sources said that the incident occurred circa 5.30 PM at the Highway Carrier’s Refilling Center.
The miscreants were onboard a black and red bike.
The rider carried a 9 mm pistol while the pillion rider had an AK-47.
On entering the station, the duo entered the manager’s cabin and commanded the workers to hand over all the sales money on gunpoint.
It was also informed that while they were exiting the cabin, another worker of the fuel station was making way to hand over cash of the day’s sales; and the miscreants saw the opportunity to also snatch the cash of over Rs 50,000 from the employee. After this, they fled the scene and were said to head towards Sonapur area of Assam.
The workers informed media persons on Saturday that they were busy fixing the machine of the station during the day, but in the evening, one motorcycle took a U-turn and came towards the petrol pump and suddenly the riders and the pillion rider, knock the door of the manager’s cabin and when opened, the miscreants asked them at gunpoint to hand over all the cash. The petrol pump workers also informed that the amount looted by the armed miscreants is more than Rs 2 lakh.
As per the CCTV footages, one of the armed miscreants with AK47 had covered his face with a muffler while the other one with a 9mm pistol was wearing a helmet. However, due to the low resolution of CCTV footage, the registration number of the motorbike could not be ascertained.
Following the incident, police personnel from Byrnihat Outpost rushed to the spot to conduct enquiry into the matter and investigation is underway to nab the armed miscreants. An FIR has also been filed at Byrnihat Police Outpost in this regard.
