TURA, Jan 9: Job card holders from Kukurmua village under Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills have filed a complaint against GHADC MDC from Zikzak, Akthar Ali alleging that the MDC had manipulated the recent VEC elections to favour the candidate he supported.
According to the complainants, the elections to the posts of the VEC President and Secretary for Kukurmua village were held on December 21 last year.
In their complaint to South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ramakrishna Chitturri, the job card holders alleged that the elections which were supposed to be held at Kukurmua village was instead held at the inspection bungalow near the MDC’s residence, on his behest.
They added that while it was illegal for those from outside the village to be present during the elections, the MDC and his son along with other companions reportedly entered the election room and started influencing the voters.
Other allegations made by the job card holders include, the casting of multiple votes by a particular individual in favour of the MDC’s candidate.
Stating that the conduct of the entire election process was not as per the rules and guidelines, the job card holders urged the deputy commissioner to direct the BDO concerned not to approve the said VEC.
