Shillong, Jan 10: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma today informed that the state government has decided to go ahead with the celebration of Meghalaya 50th year of statehood notwithstanding the renewed threat of COVID 19 even though the event will be organised on a much smaller scale.
Talking to reporters here today, Chief Minister informed that the programme would be held at JN Sports Complex, Polo on January 21 from 11 am where only 3000 people will be allowed to attend.
According to the CM, they will be sticking with the protocols of having 30 percent attendance only during the event adding that there will be people from all over the place who will be attending the programme.
He further informed that all other districts will not be having any separate programmes in view of the COVID-19 situation.
The Chief Minister further informed that they were still waiting for confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office if the PM would attend the programme or not.
“As of now, we are yet to get any confirmation. But the programme is being planned accordingly,” Sangma informed.
Further, he informed that the state government was not going ahead with the inauguration of the 50 projects on the day of the event as announced earlier.
The Chief Minister informed that the government had listed close to 300 projects which would be launched throughout this year along the golden jubilee celebrations.
According to him, they will have more local participations during the launch of these projects.
