Guwahati, Jan 11: An Upper Assam-based senior journalist died by suicide at his residence in Tinsukia on Monday night, police sources said.

Reportedly, Bikash Moran (51), who was associated with a satellite news channel, shot himself with his own licensed pistol. However, the reason why he shot himself was yet to be known.

“A pistol was recovered from his room. The body has been sent for post mortem and we are awaiting the report. However, prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. From our preliminary investigation, we came to know that none from outside came to the room,” Tinsukia superintendent of police Debojit Deori informed media persons on Tuesday.

The media fraternity of Upper Assam, including members of the Tinsukia Press Club and journalists across Tinsukia and Dibrugarh, mourned his death.

Moran had recently interviewed ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruah for a news channel.
