Guwahati, Jan 12: A motor vehicle inspector (MVI) at the office of district transport office, Nagaon, has been arrested over corruption charges and detained under custody.
The MVI, Homen Chandra Das, was arrested by police on Tuesday and, in accordance with state transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary’s direction, placed under suspension with effect from the date of his arrest until further order.
The commissioner of transport will inquire into the matter and submit report within 15 days, an official statement said on Wednesday.
Besides, Pranab Mahanta, a peon at the DTO, Nagaon, has also been arrested on corruption charges and thereby suspended.
A woman, Balwant Kaur, who is not a government employee, has also been arrested by police.
