SHILLONG, Jan 12: The State All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) president, Charles Pyngrope, on Wednesday questioned the state government on the ‘failure’ of various inquiries
to complete its task within the given timeline.
“The next budget session will be held in March. This question will definitely be raised and the government will need to provide the answer,” Pyngrope said.
He, however, said that what is more important is the transparency that should be put in place to ensure that there is a free-and-fair inquiry.
“The reasons for why they could not meet the timeline have to be stated and when the government puts this (reasons) on the floor of the House, we will see whether there is some merit in the justification provided by the government over the delay of these various inquiries,” the State AITC president said.
Asked if the delay in completion of the inquiries shows the lack of seriousness on part of the government, Pyngrope said that he will be unable to comment if the government is serious or not. “All seriousness should be put in place because the people need to know the truth about whatever happened. It may not be in anyone’s favour. Justice has to prevail and the truth has to come out,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the various inquiries constituted by the state government including the alleged scam in the Power department, rice scam and also to probe the death of former HNLC leader, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, are yet to see the light of day.
All these different inquiries were given an extension after they failed to complete the tasks within the given timeframe.
