TURA, Jan 14: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has threatened to stage a mass hunger strike, defying the Covid-19 restrictions put in place, if the government continues to ignore its demands for the release of pending salaries.

The teachers have yet to receive their three months’ pending salaries for October, November and December, 2021 and several agitations were undertaken by the association last year with the demand that the same be released before Christmas and New Year. With the festivities finally over, the association warned that it would not hesitate to resume the agitation.

The teachers claim that the amount for the salaries has already been released to the State Government by the Centre and blame the MDA government for keeping it pending.

“We are paralyzed and cannot afford our children’s school dues like admission fees, monthly fees, school bus fare besides others. We were promised that the pending salaries would be released last year itself, which did not happen. We cannot go on with our duties without our salaries and demand its immediate release,” the association said.
