Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, on Sunday, informed that all protocols issued by the government will be adhered to during the celebration. “The initial plan was to host a big event to mark this auspicious occasion. But now the celebration will be on a smaller scale in view of the re-imposition of various protocols due to the surge of COVID-19 cases,” the Speaker said.
Staing that plans are afoot for a write up on 50 years’ journey of the Meghalaya Assembly. “We had planned to organise many things on January 21. But now the situation does not permit it,” he added.
Speaking as the president of UDP, Metbah Lyngdoh said that the party will not organsise any programme on January 21 in view of the third wave. “But it does not mean that the celebration will be held only on this day since we still have the whole year to celebrate our 50 years of statehood,” he said.
Talking about the UDP office, which is under construction, the party president informed that the construction of the office has been going on for the past one year and is expected to be complete by January-end.
“We had initially targeted to complete the party office by November last year. We are hopeful to complete the construction of the party office by the end of January,” he said.
He went on to add that the UDP will formally inaugurate the party office as part of the golden jubilee celebration.
“We may recall that the party is yet to have its office till now. It will be a great achievement to finally have a party office after so many years,” the UDP president added.
