CM announces Rs 2.5 lakh to rejuvenate Umsawlong river

SHILLONG, Jan 17: In support of his recently-launched beautification programme, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday announced financial aid worth Rs 2.5 lakh towards the cleaning and beautification of Umsawlong river.
The chief minister made his announcement while attending the beautification programme at Mawlai Kynton Massar.
Praising the efforts and initiative undertaken by the local volunteers for cleaning the Umsawlong river, Conrad Sangma mentioned that the allotted amount will assist the volunteers in further development of the river which is a crucial asset to the locality and the surrounding areas.
He also mentioned that the Umsawlong river will be included under the Externally Aided Projects for preserving the catchment areas.
Notably, the beautification programme in Mawlai Kynton Massar was also attended by Mawlai MDC Teibor Pathaw, Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai besides the residents and volunteers of Mawlai Kynton Massar locality.
The chief minister also said that the demand for shifting the CRPF camp from Mawlai is still ongoing and the process for identification of alternate land for the camp has started.
Conrad further added that his government is strictly looking into the issues of water scarcity in the area, traffic congestion in Mawlai Bridge and the inclusion in the MGNREGA by having meetings with the concerned departments.
