SHILLONG, Jan 21: Health Minister, James PK Sangma on Friday said the government will review the situation arising out of rising cases of Omicron before taking a call on imposing another lockdown.
Sangma’s statement comes two days after the Union Health Ministry voiced concern over the spike in Omicron cases in Meghalaya and advised the state to not only ramp up COVID-19 testing but also impose more local restrictions.
Asked about the government’s stand on a fresh lockdown, Sangma said, “This is a call which we need to take collectively. We need to consult our respective deputy commissioners as we have decentralised decision making.”
The Health Minister cautioned that the number of COVID cases was rising and urged people to be vigilant. He maintained that the Health department was taking necessary measures to ensure that the situation does not go out of hand.
331 fresh cases, one death
Meanwhile, the state on Friday recorded 331 fresh cases of COVID-19 while one more patient succumbed to the viral infection taking the death toll to 1,495.
The active tally stands at 1,782 while 84,458 people have recovered from the viral infection including 177 on the day.
